Return to Monkey Island: What we know so far
Return to Monkey Island was officially announced on April 4th, but not much has been shared. There is an official website that doesn't contain much information besides the trailer. However, Ron Gilbert, and other people involved in the game development, already shared some extra details on Twitter.
The game will take place right after Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge and is written by Ron Gilbert and Dave Grossman, the music is composed by Michael Land, Peter McConnell and Clint Bajakian. David Fox is the lead programmer and the art is directed by Rex Crowle. Noah Falstein did some early testing although it's not clear what's his role besides that.
Ron Gilbert also clarified on Twitter that The Curse of Monkey Island will still be canon and Murray will be in it:
He's in it big time.
He also shared that the Mêlée Island lookout will return:
Just got done recording the amazing @yakkopinky doing the Lookout for #ReturnToMonkeyIsland. @phrenopolis wrote some funny stuff for that scene. We didn't do VO when MI1/2 first came out so it's exciting to be in the studio recording MI dialog.
The game has been in development for nearly two years now and they are currently recording the voice dialogues. It's expected to be released this year.
The game engine was written by Ron Gilbert as clarified by David Fox:
New engine created by @grumpygamer
As for the voice over, we now have the following returning actors:
- Guybrush Threepwood will be played by Dominic Armato
- Elaine Marley will be played by Alexandra Boyd
- Murray will be played by Denny Delk
- Lookout will be played by Rob Paulsen
- Gavin Hammon will most likely provide the voice of Stan
- Herman Toothrot will be played by Wally Wingert
I can't wait to know more about the game!
I'm as equally excited to know more!
