Sea of Thieves is a multiplayer action-adventure game developed by Rare and published by Microsoft Studios. Players assume the role of a pirate completing voyages in an open world. They can form alliances or go head-to-head with other players.
Where can I play it?
You can play it on Xbox One, Xbox Series X & S or PC. You can also play it on Xbox Cloud Gaming if you don't have any of these platforms, but you'll need a fast internet connection and a controller.
Where can I buy it?
You can buy Sea of Thieves from the Microsoft Store for Xbox or PC. It's free if you're a Game Pass subscriber. It's also available on Steam.
Can I play it alone?
Yes, it is possible to play Sea of Thieves alone, although the game is intended to be played by a crew. If you choose to play solo, you'll have to handle multiple tasks at once. However, you can mitigate this difficulty by sailing a smaller vessel like a sloop.
Do I have to play the whole game to get to the Monkey Island crossover?
No, you'll be able to access it directly. This is achieved by heading to the Capsize Charters on any Outpost and voting on the Tall Tale journal. Once it's activated you'll have to sail through the Tunnel of the Damned. There's a nice short tutorial by Spammals where he explains all these in detail.
Can I play the second or third instalment without completing the previous ones?
While it is possible to play the second or third installment without completing the previous ones, playing them in order provides a better experience.
